Medical Image Processing, Visualisation and Analysis
Monday 12th
Attendees had come from a wide range of backgrounds, including physics, computing, engineering, and medicine. Some were PhD students, whilst others were medical physicists working in hospitals, and a few were working in industrial research and development. Many people expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to ask advice of the expert faculty members present during the week and to exchange ideas with other students facing similar challenges in their research. The lecture programme started with an introduction to Medical Imaging Science, from Derek Hill (Radiological Sciences, Kings College London), preparing the way for the lectures to follow. The final lecture of the day was on Volume Visualisation, given by Min Chen (Computer Science, University of Wales, Swansea). This introduced the techniques of surface and direct volume rendering as a means of extracting meaningful information from volumetric data.
